Lusófona University - Porto University Centre held a special fashion show on March 22 to celebrate the 35-year career of designer Luís Buchinho, a lecturer in the Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design and Production. The event, which took place at 4:30 pm in the university’s new facilities located at number 123 on Alexandre Herculano Street, aimed not only to honour Luís Buchinho’s long trajectory but also to highlight the talent of the students, who actively participated in the creation of a collection for the autumn/winter 2025-26 season.
The course coordinator, Alexandra Cruchinho, challenged the designer to involve 27 students in the development of the collection, which became an integral part of the students’ final semester project. Over the course of three months, the students worked closely with Luís Buchinho, creating 35 garments that were first showcased in Lisbon and now in Porto.
The fashion show was marked by an atmosphere of great emotion and sophistication, with models, some from fashion agencies, presenting the students' creations. Before the event, the models underwent preparations including clothing fittings, shoe selections, makeup, and hairstyling, ensuring everything was perfect for the big moment.
At the end of the show, the students surprised their professor by presenting him with a cake as a symbol of their appreciation and affection for him. After the fashion show, everyone proceeded to the exhibition of academic projects created by the students, where they could admire the effort and talent of the future designers.
Luís Buchinho spoke about the inspiration and materials used in the collection. "The main materials in this collection are wool fabrics, technical polyester and polyamide gabardine fabrics with a waterproof effect. There are also some complementary materials that create very rich visual textures, such as mohair, alpaca, and ribbed knits," the designer explained.
Regarding the concept of the collection, Luís Buchinho revealed that it is a tribute to women and his career. "This collection is about women and, in a way, about my career—how these 35 years of my career have been synthesised into a collection," he stated.
The event was undoubtedly a grand celebration of fashion, young talent, and the experience of one of the most significant figures in the industry, who continues to inspire generations of creators.
