Lusófona University Promotes Debate on Sport, Inclusion, and Citizenship
Open lecture highlights the role of Physical Education and sport in promoting inclusion, ethics, and citizenship

On 21 May, Lusófona University – Porto University Centre hosted an open lecture entitled “Physical Education and Sport as a Territory of Inclusion, Ethics, and Democracy”, bringing together students and lecturers to reflect on the contribution of physical education and sport to the promotion of values such as inclusion, ethics, and democratic participation.
The session featured Manuel Brito, a Physical Education teacher at the Higher Institute of Physical Education of Lisbon (ISEF), who throughout his career has held several positions related to education, sport, and public administration.
During the lecture, Professor Brito highlighted the importance of sharing the experience he has gained over the years in public administration and political life within the fields of education and sport. He believes that by sharing his ideas and experiences, he “can help many attendees choose paths, make decisions, and ask questions of themselves.”
Throughout his presentation, he also shared his perspective on the role of Physical Education and sport in shaping citizens, addressing issues related to inclusion, sporting ethics, and democratic values. Drawing on his professional experience, he reflected on the importance of these educational contexts in promoting respect for diversity, participation, and social responsibility.
The lecture provided students with an opportunity to reflect and exchange ideas on the challenges and opportunities faced by Physical Education and sport as spaces for human and civic development.
