Lusófona University Researcher at the 3rd WAAR International Conference

Lusófona University was represented at the 3rd International Conference of the World Association of Authors and Researchers (WAAR), dedicated to the theme Decolonisation through Language and Literature, through the participation, as a Plenary Speaker, of Patrícia Ferraz de Matos, Integrated Researcher at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and Development (CeiED).

Invited by the President of WAAR, Vijay Kumar Roy, Professor at the University of Allahabad, India, Patrícia Ferraz de Matos presented the paper Exercises for Decolonising Thought and Practice Today: Examples Related to the Portuguese Case, dedicated to reflecting on the processes of decolonising thought and practices, drawing on examples related to the Portuguese context.

Organised by the Department of English of Université Numérique Cheikh Hamidou Kane, in Senegal, in association with the Senegal (West Africa) and Prayagraj (India) sections of WAAR, the conference took place in person in Senegal and online on 25 and 26 July 2026, bringing together around 150 participants from different countries, including Portugal, India, Senegal and Nigeria.

The plenary session also featured contributions addressing the relationship between language, literature, Pan-African studies, artificial intelligence and education from a decolonial perspective, considering different historical and geographical contexts.

At the end of the session, Pradeep Kumar, Joint Secretary of WAAR and Professor at the University of Allahabad, highlighted the contributions of the three speakers and the importance of language and literature in the processes of decolonising thought and practices.
