New Master in Applied Biochemistry Brings Students Closer to the Business World

Promoting collaboration between academia and industry was the central focus of the workshop "Building Bridges: Academia-Industry Opportunities in Biochemistry", held on 23 May at Lusófona University - Lisbon University Centre. The initiative brought together researchers, lecturers, students, and company representatives from the pharmaceutical, biotechnological, and food sectors, with the aim of identifying shared needs and challenges.

Organised by the School of Psychology and Life Sciences (EPCV), the event marked the launch of the new Master’s in Applied Biochemistry, a study programme aimed at integrating scientific and technical skills with direct application in an industrial context. It was designed to meet current labour market demands, enhancing the connection between academic research, technological development, and professional practice.

During the workshop, gaps identified in the industrial sector were discussed, particularly in terms of technical specialisation and the ability to adapt to innovation-driven environments. The session also explored ways of fostering collaboration between universities and companies, highlighting the importance of internships, joint projects, and continuous training.
