One Health Conference Concludes with Institutional Recognition

The International “One Health” Conference took place on 19 June at Lusófona University under the theme “One Health, One Planet, One Future”. The event explored the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health, with particular emphasis on public health, sustainability, and animal welfare.

Organised by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Lusófona University, the conference brought together contributions from national and international experts, including Laurentina Pedroso, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Michael Ziccardi, Associate Director of the One Health Institute at UC Davis, and Manpreet Singh, President of the International Association for Food Protection. Throughout the day, discussions focused on topics such as antimicrobial resistance, food safety, environmental impact, artificial intelligence applied to healthcare, and disaster response involving animals.

The conference concluded with a keynote address by João Moura, Secretary of State for Agriculture. In his remarks, he thanked Lusófona University for its work, with particular recognition of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for its contributions to education, public health, animal protection, and community engagement. His address reinforced the Faculty’s role in promoting an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to today's challenges, fully aligned with the One Health concept.
