Social Work Students Participate in Study Visit to Espaço Júlia
Students of ULusófona visited Espaço Júlia, gaining insight into support services for victims of domestic violence and real-world social interventions

On 13 March, students specialising in Risks and Violence of the Master’s in Social Work and Social Policy took part in an open class in the form of a study visit to Espaço Júlia – RIAV in Lisbon.
The activity was organised by lecturer Nélson Ramalho, who teaches the course Social Work in Risk and Violence Situations, with the aim of providing students with direct contact with a specialised response service supporting victims of domestic violence.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to learn about the centre and its intervention model, gaining a deeper understanding of its functioning, as well as procedures for reception, risk assessment, and victim follow-up in a real social intervention context.
The initiative also included a moment of sharing and reflection with the Technical Director of Espaço Júlia, Dr. Inês Carrolo, and with PSP officers, who presented intervention processes and inter-institutional coordination in victim support.
This experience proved to be a highly relevant learning moment, strengthening the connection between academic knowledge and field intervention, and contributing to students’ preparation for professional practice in the area of risks and violence.
