From March 17 to 25, 2025, Lusófona University hosted the Social Work Week, an event organised by the Institute of Social Work (ISS) to celebrate World Social Work Day on March 18. The event provided a space for reflection on the role of Social Work in society, addressing key issues such as intergenerational solidarity.
The theme of the event, "Strengthening intergenerational solidarity for lasting well-being", was set by the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW). The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of cooperation and respect between different generations as a way of building a stronger and more inclusive society.
Throughout the week, the public had the opportunity to attend various lectures and conferences. Among the highlights was the presentation of the book "Social Work in Professional Training in Portugal" by Helena S. Cruz, which discussed the evolution of Social Work in Portugal. Another highlight was the screening of the film "Listen" (2020), directed by Ana Rocha de Sousa, which portrays the difficulties faced by a Portuguese immigrant family in the United Kingdom.
The week culminated in the conference celebrating World Social Work Day on March 25, featuring a roundtable on best practices and challenges in the profession, with the participation of professionals and experts in the field.
