ULusófona Professor Receives Luso-German Journalism Award

Jacinto Godinho, professor at the Department of Communication Sciences/School of Communication, Architecture, Arts and Information Technologies (ECATI) at Universidade Lusófona, won the Luso-German Journalism Prize in the Video/Multimedia category with his report from RTP “PS 50 anos: A Raiz Alemã”, which tells the story of the founding of the Portuguese Socialist Party in Germany in 1973.

The 4th edition of the Luso-German Journalism Award not only recognized the work of Jacinto Godinho, but also awarded four other journalistic projects that contribute to mutual understanding between the two countries and promote independent and professional journalism as pillars of European democracy. From the narrative of the failed coup against German democracy to the exploitation of immigrants in Alentejo and the intriguing Soviet ghost barracks of Wünsdorf, the projects address a series of events that not only outlined the path of the PS, but also highlight the intersection between Portugal and Germany at critical moments in European history.

The award ceremony is scheduled for World Press Freedom Day, on May 3, in Camões Berlin, Germany, and will be attended by the award-winning journalists. This event will be an opportunity to recognize journalistic talent and discuss the current panorama of journalism in Portugal and Germany.
