Notícias Lusófona attended the 4th International Congress on Healthy Learning and Working Environments at ISLA Gaia on May 21. The conference was dedicated to reflecting on the balance between personal and professional life, as well as the challenges of creating sustainable learning and working environments.
The event took place within the framework of a project funded by the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES), with the goal of promoting mental health in higher education by involving students, faculty members, and professionals from academic institutions. According to Tânia Gaspar, Director of ULusófona’s Psychology, Innovation and Knowledge Service and Coordinator of the Portuguese Laboratory for Healthy Work Environments, the congress aimed to address the current challenges faced by organizations and higher education institutions. “Ultimately, we want to explore how educational institutions and workplaces can become healthier environments in terms of mental health and workplace relationships.”
The congress featured prominent guests and specialists from various health-related fields. Sector-specific observatories dedicated to studying workplace environments in areas such as tourism, healthcare, engineering, and construction were also presented, enabling comparisons across different professional realities.
The topic of mental health and well-being in study and work settings has become increasingly relevant. No longer confined to the field of psychology, it is now part of the discourse of managers, organizations, and workers alike. At the same time, younger generations place growing importance on achieving a balance between personal and professional life, as well as on the existence of healthier and more sustainable work environments.
The initiative also provided opportunities for scientific discussion and knowledge sharing, reinforcing the commitment of the participating institutions to promoting research and knowledge in the fields of health and well-being within learning and work contexts.
