Walking Football is a variation of football – it’s football on foot – and aims to encourage people over the age of 50 to take up sport, promoting social integration and camaraderie to encourage a more active lifestyle.

Walking Football was the theme of an intergenerational gathering for ‘Grandparents and Grandchildren’. This initiative, a DAC – Domains of Curricular Autonomy, organised by the Águeda Sul School Group in partnership with the ‘Mais Feliz’ Association, whose president is Professor Fernando Batista, took place at the sports hall of the Professor Artur Nunes Vidal School in Fermentelos on 8 May.

Under the patronage of Professor Paulo Sargento, a lecturer at Lusófona University, the initiative was attended by the National Walking Football Coach, António Manuel Carapinheira.

The initiative was characterised by inclusion and diversity, bringing together older people, young people and children from different backgrounds, who had the opportunity to socialise with joy and enthusiasm, promoting equal opportunities through playing sport together.
