Young Researchers from CICANT gather at the first Writing Jam in Porto
Event promoted exchange of experiences and unlocked scientific writing in a collaborative environment
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)

On 21 and 22 July 2025, Lusófona University - Porto University Centre hosted the first edition of the Writing Jam, an initiative organised by the Early Career Scholars group of the Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies (CICANT). This event, exclusive to young researchers from CICANT, provided a collective working space where participants could focus on scientific writing and share experiences.
"The process of writing a dissertation or thesis is very solitary. That is why the young researchers from CICANT at the Porto and Lisbon University Centres will come together over these two days to work in a collective environment. Each will work on their own project, but we also have a moment of sharing and exchanging experiences." stated Margarida Maneta, researcher at CICANT.
The Writing Jam is not the group's first initiative, as it has previously organised conferences in Lisbon to help young researchers develop their theses and present their work. This new format aims not only to advance writing skills but also to support participants' mental well-being, allowing them to share concerns and tips in a supportive environment.
Although the event is restricted to these researchers, the organisers are already considering the possibility of opening future editions to the wider community.
With the Writing Jam, CICANT reaffirms its commitment to supporting academic development by promoting a space where collaboration and knowledge sharing are fundamental.
