"Hello, I'm João Oliveira, and I'm a Computer Engineering student at Lusófona University - Porto University Centre.

What motivated me to choose this degree? I've always had a great interest in computers and games since I was a child, and I think that, honestly, that's what led me here. I decided that this was also the path I wanted to pursue professionally.

Something that definitely stood out to me during this degree was one of my lecturers, Carla (Cordeiro). What I admire about her is that she is my lecturer for many different subjects, and she manages to be an excellent lecturer in all of them. In other words, the amount and range of knowledge she has is huge, and I really admire that about her. Another memorable experience was NDC. The University gave me the opportunity to attend NDC Porto, where I was able to volunteer and be part of the organisation. During my breaks, I was able to attend the talks, which enriched me greatly, so it was a very positive and memorable experience.

In terms of skills, what I've acquired so far is that I've learnt a lot about C and Python, and we've also learnt a lot about project management and how that aspect of engineering works. We also learn about front-end development. We've covered a lot of content in general, but perhaps what caught my attention the most was data analysis and Data Science. The Database subject really caught my interest; honestly, if I had to choose one subject, it would definitely be that one.

As for the lecturers, they are specialised, very attentive and always available to students. The classes themselves are also very practical and prepare us for the real world of work. Whenever we have any questions, they are always available to provide us with an answer, whether in person or online, so I think that's a real advantage of this institution.

To students who are considering applying for the Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering: I would say, come and join us. It's a very, very, very interesting field, it's still being explored today and it's completely on the rise. My experience at this institution has been excellent, the degree is excellent, and it prepares you fully for the world of work.

As for the world of work, it's a field with a huge range of career opportunities and many job offers, whether in the different areas available, such as front-end, full-stack, back-end or Data Science, which is the area I'm interested in. If you're wondering whether there are opportunities in the job market, there are. They exist. So, if you really like the field and are interested in it, I think you should come and make the effort.
