Mariana Tavares

Bachelor's Degree in Communication Sciences

Hello, my name is Mariana Tavares, and I am currently in the final year of my Communication Sciences degree at Lusófona University. I chose this degree because I am a very communicative and creative person, but initially I was a little hesitant about pursuing a course focused solely on journalism. Lusófona University offered the opportunity that best suited my interests and personal circumstances.

And I am so glad I made that choice because I eventually decided to specialise in marketing. Throughout my university journey, two modules stood out as particularly memorable. The first was Trend Research, taught by Professor Mónica Lopes, and the second was History and Theory of Communication, taught by Professor Jorge Bruno Ventura.

In Trend Research, Professor Mónica helped me discover a side of myself that I did not even know existed: my creative side. And Professor Jorge Bruno, besides being an excellent lecturer with a wonderful voice, helped me realise that I would not be happy pursuing a career in journalism. These two modules played a key role in my decision to specialise in marketing.

To all future Communication Sciences students at Lusófona University, I wish you the very best of luck. Come with an open mind, plenty of creativity and a willingness to learn. I promise you that the first year might be a little challenging, but it is definitely worth it in the end!
