Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts
“I’m Sofia Bernardo and I’m in the 2nd year of Visual Arts. I have always enjoyed drawing and painting, mainly as a hobby. Given the exams I took and everything else, I ended up deciding that Universidade Lusófona might be the best option because of the transport links, but also because the Visual Arts degree allows me to develop a bit of everything, try different things and find out where I feel most comfortable.
And I think, in that sense, I chose the right degree for me. These works were produced for this year’s Drawing course, during this semester. The exercise was to create our own reflection, but with a certain degree of distortion, and we had to create our own reflective object.
In this case, I used a mirror and started by bending it slightly, trying to make these distortions happen. I took the photo with my mobile phone and ended up using oil pastels because I wanted colour, I wanted it to be large and to stand out. I think perhaps what impressed me most was the size of the space where we are exhibiting, the number of people who are here now for the opening, and also the number of works on display. There are so many.
And I think it allows us to show a bit of everything. For those who are still unsure about which path they want to take, Visual Arts can be a good option — that is more or less what I did. I think we have the opportunity to explore a wide range of possibilities in this field and on this degree.”
