Luana Antunes
Bachelor's Degree in Psychology
My name is Luana, and I'm studying Psychology. I'll start by explaining what motivated me to choose this degree. I have a brother with autism spectrum disorder.
I enrolled in this programme to better understand his condition and to be able to support him as he grows older. What motivated me to choose Lusófona University was the fact that I already knew many people who studied here, and they always spoke very highly of it. So I decided it would be my choice as well.
I think my biggest challenge has been balancing my academic life with my personal life because, especially during assessment periods, it can be very difficult to manage. This is particularly true for those who work and study at the same time, which was my case. Higher education is also much more demanding than secondary school.
That was probably the biggest difference I noticed when I started university. Don't be afraid – everything will work out. We have a mentoring programme, and if you're matched with the right people, it can be a huge source of support for anyone starting the Psychology degree.
Our lecturers are excellent. You can always ask them questions. Don't limit yourself to what you learn in class. Make the most of the recommended articles and supporting materials that your lecturers provide.
And most importantly, enjoy yourselves. Make the most of this experience because it's a unique opportunity.
