Carried out by the students of the Eco-Schools Council under the coordination of the institution's teachers
10.10.21 - 23h00
As part of the application to the Eco-Schools program of the Faculty of Engineering, the 1st Biological Garden of the Lusófona University was created. The project was developed by students from the Eco-Schools Council, with the coordination of professors Elisabete Maurício, Joana Lage and Anabela Cruzes, and the support of Engineer Ricardo and the University's maintenance department.
The location chosen for implementation is an area of arid soil, currently unused, measuring around 160 m², located on the east side of the campus. The objective is to revitalize this area, transforming it into a useful space for students and teachers. The project will be developed in two phases: this year, the 1st phase of revitalization was completed, which included the construction of two rustic wooden beds by the University's maintenance team, where aromatic herbs and vegetables were grown. Next year, it is planned to revitalize the rest of the area, with the planting of more species of aromatic herbs and vegetables. The garden aims to serve as a place to study and explore the various characteristics and applications of plants, promoting the development of future projects with students in various disciplines at the college.
