The Faculty of Law of Lusófona University – Lisbon University Centre held, on 20 November 2025, the conference “The Influence of Mimetic Rivalry on Contemporary Tax Law: A Critical Approach Based on René Girard”, which took place in the José Araújo Auditorium. The event brought together academics, jurists and researchers interested in reflecting on the foundations and dynamics of tax law from a philosophical and interdisciplinary perspective.
Inspired by the theory of mimetic rivalry developed by the French thinker René Girard, this critical approach, situated within a context of increasing social and economic complexity, made it possible to question the relationships of desire, conflict and sacrifice that shape modern tax systems. The event fostered dialogue between legal, ethical and cultural dimensions, offering new perspectives for understanding contemporary taxation.
With the participation of renowned national and international academics, the conference provided a space for sharing and critical reflection, reinforcing the role of the Faculty of Law of Lusófona University as a centre of thought and innovation in legal studies. The event encouraged the engagement of the academic community and professionals from the legal and tax sectors.
