Initiative at the Military University Institute promotes joint reflection on European security and geopolitics
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
On 4 December 2025, students from Lusófona University took part in the inter-university workshop organised by the Military University Institute, entitled “New Conflict Dynamics – The (New) European Geopolitics”.
The event brought together students and researchers from several institutions, both civilian and military, with the aim of promoting academic dialogue on contemporary challenges to peace and security in Europe.
In the opening session, the Commander of the MUI highlighted the urgency of understanding recent transformations in the European security landscape and emphasised the role of higher education institutions in training professionals capable of interpreting and responding to these changes.
During the workshop, participants — including many students from Lusófona — joined mixed groups (military auditors and civilian students), working on topics such as the return of war to Europe, hybrid conflict dynamics, the impact of conflicts in Eastern Europe, risks to the cohesion of the European project, and the challenges to the strategic autonomy of nations.
In the final stage, the groups presented conclusions highlighting the need for an integrated approach between politics, society and the military instrument in order to address current security challenges.
This experience reinforces the importance of building bridges between civilian and military higher education, contributing to the development of informed and well-prepared citizens and professionals.
