Sustainable fuels drive debate on the future of aviation
Meeting analysed the role of SAF and the challenges of the energy transition in the aviation sector.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
Carbon neutrality and the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) were at the centre of the debate at the event held on 25 November at the Agostinho da Silva Auditorium, dedicated to the theme “The challenge of aviation towards carbon neutrality and the role of SAF”. The initiative brought together professionals from various fields to analyse the progress, challenges and possibilities associated with the energy transition in the aviation sector.
The session opened with an address by Ana Brasão, Director of the School of Economic Sciences and Organisations at Lusófona University – Lisbon University Centre. This was followed by contributions from Swiss International Air Lines, presented by Sérgio Bastinho Costa, as well as an intervention from Airbus, whose participation is pending confirmation.
The meeting also included a round table moderated by the journalist Paulo Fidalgo, focused on the question “How to accelerate the adoption of SAF?”. Participants included Joanaz de Melo, from the Faculty of Science and Technology, and Matthieu Brouté, from the company Galp.
Lusófona University enabled different entities linked to the aviation sector to create a shared space for solutions and approaches that can support the reduction of environmental impact and the transition towards a more sustainable model.
