Food fraud and authenticity in the agri-food chain

The Portuguese Association for Food Protection (PAFP), in partnership with the International Association of Food Protection (IAFP), held its annual seminar on Food Fraud and Authenticity on 28 November at the Agostinho da Silva Auditorium, bringing together specialists, regulators, academia, industry and official control bodies.

In a context of increasing complexity within the agri-food chain, the seminar promoted reflection on the risks associated with food fraud, the technical and legal framework, and best practices for prevention and detection, with a direct impact on food safety and consumer confidence.

The programme included several thematic panels focusing on legal compliance, international standards, the role of competent authorities and the application of innovative technologies, such as advanced analytical methods, digital tools, artificial intelligence and traceability systems.

The initiative also featured a round-table discussion dedicated to consumer trust, brand value and global competitiveness, reinforcing the importance of cooperation between public bodies, the business sector, laboratories and academia in order to achieve safer, more transparent and more sustainable food chains.
