The study by Doctor of Education, Salete Silva Farias, conducted at Lusófona University, revealed that gender bias in schools discourages many female students from pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Interactions marked by stereotypes with male peers and discriminatory attitudes from teachers were identified as factors creating a hostile environment.

Although prejudice is more evident among students, the research found that teachers can also perpetuate these attitudes, contributing to inequality. Furthermore, the family environment plays a significant role, as traditional gender expectations often limit the development of female identities geared toward scientific and technological fields.

The investigation highlights that sharing experiences within an inclusive environment plays a decisive role in strengthening female participation in sectors historically dominated by men. The thesis author emphasizes the importance of companies implementing practices that promote gender equality and collaboration—not only as an ethical imperative but also as an effective strategy for driving organisational growth.

The findings offer valuable insights to address gender inequality and suggest strategies that can be applied in educational institutions in Brazil and abroad.
