Great Artists on Campus finally arrives in Porto!
The 1st edition kicked off on 13 February with Diana Policarpo at Batalha Centro de Cinema.
The initiative, promoted by Lusófona University, reinforces its commitment to bringing contemporary artistic production closer to the academic community and the general public, maintaining free admission as a central principle.
The artist and researcher presented a screening comprising around ten films produced between 2020 and 2025. The works, originally conceived as part of artistic installations and designed for three-dimensional exhibition contexts, were adapted to the cinema format, offering audiences a new viewing experience.
For approximately one hour and fifteen minutes, viewers followed a selection that combined science fiction, visual essay and documentary. Among the themes addressed were ergot and ergotism — in their historical and social dimensions —, ciguatera and other ecological, geographical and geopolitical issues. The session highlighted the way in which the artist articulates research, narrative and formal experimentation, creating continuities between works that are usually presented within installation contexts.
Following the screening, the conversation with the artist was led by João Sousa Cardoso, Director of the Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication and Multimedia at Lusófona University - Porto University Centre, who further explored with Diana Policarpo the creative processes, the adaptation of the works for cinema, and the intersections between art, science and research.
The 1st Great Artists on Campus session in Porto thus established itself as a space for dialogue between artist, academia and city, consolidating the expansion of the series and reinforcing its commitment to interdisciplinary and accessible programming.
