Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
On the 23rd and 24th of January 2025, Lusófona University hosted the International Symposium Quo tenditis, educatio? School and Knowledge in Professional Contexts, an event held within the scope of the ACT4WBeing - Times of Change and Changing Times project, dedicated to studying the relationship between curricular autonomy, engagement, and teachers' well-being.
The symposium gathered around 80 participants over two days and featured 34 presentations distributed across parallel sessions. In addition to presenting the results of the ACT4WBeing project, the event aimed to promote the sharing and discussion of research in Educational Sciences, focusing on Curriculum Studies, School Organisation, and Teaching Professionalism.
The conference welcomed renowned international experts, including Carl Anders Säfström, Professor of Educational Research and Director of the Centre for Public and Pedagogical Education at Maynooth University, and Ivor Goodson, Emeritus Professor of Learning Theory at the Centre for Research in Education at the University of Brighton. Nationally, the event featured Alexandra Marques Pinto, Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Lisbon, Sílvia Almeida, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of NOVA University Lisbon, and Rui Trindade, Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto.
The event provided a privileged space for reflection and debate on the challenges of contemporary education, addressing fundamental issues such as the educational model for new generations, the principles that should guide teaching, the organisation of educational institutions, and the role of teachers. The presence of School Directors and Teacher Training Centre representatives enriched the debate, encouraging critical analysis of current educational policies and practices.
The International Symposium Quo tenditis, educatio? was widely recognised as a success by both organisers and participants, who highlighted the relevance of such initiatives for advancing knowledge and improving educational practices. With a biennial schedule, future editions are expected to continue fostering dialogue and collaboration among researchers, teachers, and other education professionals.
