The monthly conference series Great Artists on Campus II, promoted by the Department of Cinema and Media Arts (DCAM) at Lusófona University, hosted communication designer Joana Machado on 26 November. She is a prominent figure in contemporary graphic and editorial design in Portugal.
With an impressive career, Joana Machado has collaborated with prestigious institutions such as the Serralves Foundation, the Porto Book Fair, the Porto Municipal Gallery, and the Júlio Pomar Atelier-Museum, developing graphic design, editorial, and visual identity projects.
Her talent has been internationally recognised. In 2014, she served on the jury of the "Art Directors Club" competition in New York. In 2022, she won the "50 Books | 50 Covers" award from AIGA, and in 2023, her work was nominated for the "Best Book Design From All Over the World 2025" award, organised by the Stiftung Buchkunst Foundation.
During the conference, Joana Machado shared her experience and insights into the impact of graphic design on cultural and educational promotion, helping students better understand the demands, challenges, and opportunities of a career in communication design.
At the end of the event, students had the chance to ask questions and benefit from the perspective and advice of a renowned professional.
