Lecture on the Application of Air Quality and Thermal Comfort Sensors

On 5 June, as part of the Sustainability Days, Lusófona University hosted a lecture by Professor João Canto, director of the Bachelor in Electrical Engineering, on the application of low-cost sensors in monitoring air quality and thermal comfort parameters. At the invitation of the Eco-Schools programme coordinators, Professor Canto shared valuable insights into the effectiveness of commercial sensors in measuring particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

This presentation was part of the BuildingAdap Research Project at Lusófona University, which aims to explore affordable technological solutions for monitoring air quality. Professor Canto emphasised the importance of a continuous and accurate assessment of air quality, both indoors and outdoors, addressing crucial issues such as the sources of air pollutant emissions, the use of monitoring stations in the national network and the mitigation measures needed to reduce exposure to these pollutants.
