The Lusófona University, through CeiED – Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Education and Development, hosted the VI WCCES Symposium in Lisbon, from 16 to 18 July 2025. The event was co-organised with the Comparative Education Section of the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences (SEC-SPCE) and centred on the theme “Renewing the Social Contract for Education: Navigating Possible Futures.”

Over three days, academics, researchers, educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders came together to reflect, from a comparative perspective, on the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of education. Discussions focused on issues such as promoting social justice and equity, the role of public policies, and the pedagogical innovations needed to respond to rapid social, economic, and technological transformations.

Hosting the symposium at Lusófona University reinforced the institution’s role as a privileged space for international and interdisciplinary scientific dialogue. The partnership between the World Council of Comparative Education Societies (WCCES) and SEC-SPCE provided an excellent framework for the comparative analysis of educational policies and practices, fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening global cooperation networks.

The event contributed to building a shared vision of a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable education, leaving a legacy of reflection and proposals for the possible futures of education.
