On 11 February, the Salão Nobre of Universidade Lusófona – Centro Universitário Porto hosted an open lecture dedicated to student motivation in Physical Education classes. The event, part of the Master's Degree in Teaching Physical Education in Primary and Secondary Education and coordinated by Professor André Barreiros, provided a space for reflection on the challenges faced by teachers and the best strategies to promote student engagement.
Professor Sidónio Serpa, one of Portugal's leading experts in Sports Psychology, was the guest of honour and shared his extensive experience in studying motivational, emotional, and leadership factors in educational and sporting contexts. During his talk, he emphasised the importance of understanding the characteristics of new generations and adopting innovative pedagogical approaches that encourage active student participation, making classes more dynamic and engaging.
Following the lecture, an open debate was held, in which Physical Education teachers shared the challenges they encounter in the field and discussed effective strategies to capture students' interest. The discussion highlighted issues such as lack of student motivation, barriers to physical activity, and the need to adapt teaching methods to generational changes.
