Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
The open lecture “Democracy versus Bureaucracy: European Institutions in Action” took place on April 30, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Professor José Araújo Auditorium, at Universidade Lusófona – Centro Universitário de Lisboa. The initiative, promoted by FCSEA, was held in person.
The session was led by Margarida Marques, former Secretary of State for European Affairs and former Member of the European Parliament, who delivered an in-depth analysis of how the institutions of the European Union operate. Drawing on her experience within the European Commission, the Council, and the European Parliament, the speaker addressed the relationship between democratic legitimacy and technical efficiency in decision-making processes.
Throughout the lecture, the real dynamics of power in Brussels were discussed, highlighting the challenges and balances that shape European governance and the impact of these decisions within the political and institutional context.
