On 23 September, Universidade Lusófona presented the report “Healthy Work Environments for Journalists” at the Kuadro Auditorium in Lisbon. The report focuses on the working conditions, health and well-being of journalists. The presentation was organised by Universidade Lusófona, through LABPATS and SPIC, in partnership with the Journalists’ Union.
Tânia Gaspar, a lecturer at Universidade Lusófona and coordinator of the Portuguese Laboratory for Healthy Work Environments (LABPATS), presented the main findings of the study, which involved 750 Portuguese journalists, and moderated the discussion that followed. The findings included signs of emotional exhaustion and burnout, as well as issues related to job satisfaction, the working environment, pay and stress management.
The discussion featured Jorge Correia, a journalist at Antena 1, Susana Oliveira, a journalist at Lusa, and Vânia Maia, representing the Journalists’ Union. The conversation addressed the challenges of working in the profession and possible ways to create healthier and more sustainable working environments, with contributions from first-year students on the Communication and Journalism degree programme.
