ULusófona Film Students’ Short Films Premiere on Canal Q

A new generation of filmmakers arrives on tv. These works are part of the academic production developed by the Department of Film and Media Arts.

The short films Caio, directed by Vasco Nico G., O Compositor, by Afonso Lucas and Rodrigo Motty, and Os Terríveis, directed by João Antunes (Pika Leão), premiered on television on Canal Q.

The three works are part of the academic production developed by the Department of Film and Media Arts at Lusófona University. The television broadcast of these productions further promotes the work developed by students among new audiences, increasing the visibility and reach of academic audiovisual creation beyond the university circuit.

The films have already received recognition on the national and international festival and awards circuit.

The short film O Compositor was selected for events such as FESTin 2025 and stood out by winning the Best Portuguese Horror Short Film award at MOTELX 2025, in addition to receiving distinctions at the Curtas Awards 2026 in the categories of Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Score.

Meanwhile, the short film Caio has screened internationally at the Chelsea Film Festival and the Short Film Market, as well as at Caminhos do Cinema Português. The film was also recognised at the Sophia Awards in the categories of Best Fiction Short Film and Best Poster, and additionally won the Best Supporting Actress award at the Curtas Awards.

The short film Os Terríveis, meanwhile, has been selected for FEST – New Directors/New Films 2025 and MOTELX 2025, was nominated for the 2025 Sophia Awards and received four nominations at the 4th edition of the Curtas Awards.
