The festival brings cinema into academia to reflect on inequalities, identity and challenges in the world of work
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
Lusófona University took part in the programme of the 9th edition of the Porto Femme – International Film Festival, hosting a series of sessions in the Salão Nobre of the Porto University Centre, reinforcing the connection between academia and contemporary cinema.
Under the theme “Work”, the festival proposed a broad reflection on the multiple dimensions of the concept, intersecting issues related to artistic production, structural inequalities and historically invisible voices, through an extensive programme that also included talks, workshops and other activities throughout the festival.
The sessions held at the university brought together a diverse range of international and national works, exploring genres such as fiction, documentary, animation and experimental film. The films addressed themes including identity, memory, migration and social relations, articulating work both as a lived experience and as a symbolic and political construct.
By hosting Porto Femme, Lusófona University reinforced its commitment to critical education and to bringing students closer to real contexts of cinematic circulation. The presence of works from different geographies and perspectives contributed to broadening the debate on the role of cinema in representing complex social realities.
In a context of challenges facing the cultural sector, the initiative also highlighted the importance of discussing fairer and more sustainable working conditions, encouraging collective reflection that extends beyond the artistic field.
Lusófona University’s participation in the 9th edition of Porto Femme thus established itself as a relevant contribution to the promotion of emerging cinema and to the construction of an academic space attentive to contemporary social and cultural transformations.
