This new hospital, to be inaugurated by the end of 2024, will be the largest and most advanced infrastructure on the Iberian Peninsula for teaching and research with livestock species, particularly sheep and cattle. Developed as part of a partnership with Companhia das Lezírias, a leading company in the agro-livestock sector in Portugal, this new hospital aims to establish itself not only as a centre of excellence in Veterinary Medicine education and research but also as a central element in the articulation and transfer of knowledge between academia and the agricultural sector in Portugal.

This investment is being complemented by other ongoing investments in the existing companion animal hospital located on the Lusófona University campus in Campo Grande, Lisbon, which are part of the process of strengthening and pedagogically enhancing the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Lusófona University. This includes the creation of several new innovative specialised Master's courses, a new offering of Microcredentials, and a strong emphasis on Veterinary Medicine research already consolidated through the establishment of a branch of CECAV – Centre for Animal and Veterinary Science, a research unit based at UTAD – University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, at Lusófona University.

Alongside the fact that Lusófona University is the only private institution in Portugal with European accreditation from the EAEVE – The European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education, this investment plan will continue to contribute to the consolidation of Lusófona University's leading position in the national context of training, research, and innovation in Veterinary Medicine.
