BANZO is Portugal's Candidate for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars® 2026
The film Banzo, directed by Margarida Cardoso, lecturer at ECATI - School of Communication, Arts and Information, has been selected by the Portuguese Academy of Cinema as Portugal’s official candidate in the category of Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards.
Produced by Uma Pedra no Sapato, the film explores the legacy of Portuguese colonialism in Africa and has been gaining recognition at international film festivals.
The ceremony of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will take place on 15 March 2026, in Hollywood, Los Angeles, marking the presence of Portugal and Lusófona University on the world’s most prestigious cinematic stage.
