ULusófona Welcomes Mauro Cerqueira for the Final of Great Artists on Campus #1

On 19 June, the Batalha Cinema Centre once again opened its doors for the final session of the Great Artists on Campus #1 conference series, featuring Mauro Cerqueira. The session was dedicated to the presentation of Sono Pasolini, the artist’s latest film, followed by a conversation with graduating students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication and Multimedia about the creative process and the themes explored in the work.

The film follows the French-Azerbaijani artist Babi Badalov as he arrives in Rome. Along the way, he visits places closely associated with the life of Italian filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini, walks along the banks of the River Tiber, and concludes his journey in Ostia, where Pasolini was murdered. Through poetry, dance, music, and moments of reflection, the film unfolds as a poetic and political journey, culminating with a song by Iranian artist Amir Tataloo, who was recently sentenced to death for blasphemy.

The session brought the Great Artists on Campus #1 series to a close with a reflection on art as a space for memory, resistance, and engagement with the present. Through Mauro Cerqueira’s perspective, the event reaffirmed the continuing relevance of Pasolini’s ideas and the power of moving images to question and challenge the world around us.
