    Admission Conditions

    Can apply for this course of study leading to a Master's degree: a) degree holders of Bachelor or equivalent, primarily in Physical Education and Sport or another area related to Exercise and/or Health. b) holders of a foreign academic degree conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this process; c) holders of a foreign academic degree that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the licenciado degree by the statutorily competent body; d) holders of academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized by the suitable body of ULHT as attesting the capacity to accomplish this cycle of studies.

    Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired

    The Master in Exercise and Health aims at the acquisition of the following knowledge, abilities and skills: 1. Know and understand the role of exercise in health and well-being. 2. Know and understand the different methodologies for the assessment of physical activity and fitness. 3. Acquire theoretical and practical knowledge on training methodology according to the characteristics of the population in order to improve health and well-being. 4. Plan, implement and evaluate exercise programs to promote health and well-being, in the presence of pathology, in children, youth and elderly. 5. Develop and implement research projects according to evidence, using appropriate methodologies and knowing the underlying state of the art. 6. Respect ethical principles in the evaluation, intervention and research activities. 7. Know how to communicate their conclusions, knowledge and reasoning, in a clear and unambiguous way, to experts or non-specialists.

    Objectives

    Having as a basis the Decree-Law nº 115/2013 of 07-08-2013, Article nº15, this master has the following general objectives: 1. Acquire, develop and deepen knowledge and understanding capacity in the master¿s area sustained on the knowledge obtained in the 1st study cycle. 2. Acquire knowledge in the field of the master which enable the basis of developments and / or original applications in research contexts. 3. Apply the knowledge, the capacity of understanding and problem solving, in broad and multidisciplinary contexts related to their area of study. 4. Integrate knowledge, develop reflections and solutions in new and unfamiliar situations and/or with limited or incomplete information and the resulting ethical and social implications and responsibilities. 5. Acquire the ability to communicate their conclusions and their underlying knowledge/ reasoning, either to experts or non-experts in the field of the master in a clear and unambiguous manner. 6. Acquire competences that enable self-directed and autonomous lifelong learning.

    Career Opportunities

    The acquired training provides the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully enter the labour market in different places that promote the practice of exercise, such as gyms and fitness centres, day centres, among other institutions as well as the integration in multidisciplinary teams in the context of clinical exercise.
  • Future Studies

    Future Studies

    The master ensures an adequate preparation to students interested in continuing their academic training through post-graduate studies, including PhD, in Exercise and Health or related areas.

    Infrastructure and Equipment

    ULP provides a variety of resources to support learning, from physical resources (classrooms with multimedia equipment, library, technological resources, pedagogical and scientific equipment, including aspects related to safety and the environment, as well as specific needs of disabled students) to tutoring support, supervision and counselling, promoting their respective publicity among students.
