Beatriz Nolasco

Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design and Production

My name is Beatriz Nolasco, and I am currently in the second year of the Fashion programme at Lusófona University. I chose this degree because fashion has been part of my life for a long time. I completed my secondary education in a professional fashion programme, so I have been studying fashion for many years.

Since I was very young, I have always loved drawing, and I have a strong connection to fashion, largely inspired by my grandmothers. Choosing this degree felt like the natural way to continue my studies, because I know this is what I want for my future. I also chose Lusófona because it is close to home and my family, and because I found both the programme and its curricular units genuinely inspiring.

So far, one of the most challenging projects in these two years was the upcycling project in the second year, using navy uniforms. It carried a great sense of responsibility and was definitely one of the most demanding projects we have had. I chose the darker camouflage fabric to create my piece.

The concept behind my trousers was inspired by a military collar from the navy. I wanted to create something extravagant, yet discreet at the same time. I designed very wide trousers with openings through buttons, allowing them to be worn in different ways.

I wanted them to be truly oversized, and when these openings are unbuttoned, they transform into pockets, allowing the person wearing them to place their arms inside. It creates a versatile and unexpected interaction with the garment.

I genuinely appreciate all my lecturers. We receive a lot of support from them, and they are always available to help. Beyond teaching, they also build a very close and supportive relationship with students, which has made my experience extremely positive.

My advice to anyone considering this degree is to understand that fashion is a very demanding field. It requires discipline, commitment, and a lot of hard work. Many people may not realise how rigorous it is, but for those who truly want to pursue it, it is an incredibly rewarding path.
