Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Communication
“Hello, I am Gonçalo Paiva. I hold a degree in Applied Communication from Lusófona University – Porto University Centre.
My interaction with lecturers and classmates at ULusófona contributed greatly to my development. I made great friends here whom I still keep today, and who helped me grow not only professionally but also personally.
In terms of lecturers, I also had very good teachers, whom I remember and will remember forever.
The knowledge from the Applied Communication degree that I now use in my day-to-day life is largely related to the marketing and communication concepts that I first learned here. Therefore, everything related to strategic planning, brand communication, branding, etc. — it was undoubtedly here that I consolidated them.
An example of something I learned during the course and later applied in a campaign at Toyota would be, for instance, the structure of a communication plan.
As simple as that. Learning about the research it involves and the stages it comprises is very useful for me now, allowing me to perform a role that requires me to think about campaigns and to implement the fundamentals more easily and effectively.
The advice I would give to students would be not to be afraid to seize a professional opportunity, wherever it may be or whatever it may be. Of course, it should align with a range of interests you may have, but even if it is not exactly what you are looking for or what you imagine your career to be, take it anyway, because it will always bring you something — if nothing else, it will help you discover what you do not want within the field of Communication or Marketing, in this case.”
