Hello, I’m Rui Ferreira, I’m in the 3rd year of the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering at Lusófona University. I really wanted to study in Lisbon because I’m from outside the city, I’m from Leiria, and I liked the academic plan of this university, so I decided to choose the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering. I chose it because from a very young age I had a lot of contact with computers and with the field of IT, I also have family members in the area, and I’ve always had strong support from my parents to pursue engineering.

The moment that challenged me and was inspiring, and that really made that “click” for me to continue the degree, was when I was developing a project for Fundamentals of Programming with Rodrigo. He even came over to my house that day, we were coding, and I realised that if this was what working in this field would be like—these kinds of environments and challenges with colleagues and people who are interested—then this is what I wanted to do, this is what I enjoy doing.

My experience in the course has been quite gradual. I think I started very focused on programming and developing software, and now I’m moving more towards areas like management and client interaction, as well as Data Science and related fields. So, I feel it has been a progression more oriented towards the job market and not only towards software development.

Lusófona University has contributed a lot, mainly due to the lecturers. We have lecturers who maintain very good contact with students, show great availability, and are easy to reach.

I have two goals that I would like to achieve: one is to complete both the bachelor’s and the master’s degree, and the other is, when entering the job market, to pursue something related to a great passion of mine, which is football. Perhaps working as a team analyst, analysing player data, or even working directly with football teams.
