On the 6th of November, the university campus became the stage for a unique artistic experience during the Great Arts on Campus event. The artist duo Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela presented the projection of the film “A Dança do Cipreste” (2020), attracting an audience of visual arts and experimental cinema enthusiasts.
Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela, graduates in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Porto, have been collaborating since 2010, developing an artistic practice centred around moving images. In addition to filmmaking, the duo combines different artistic languages such as drawing, painting, photography, and sculpture to create installation environments and site-specific projects. The dialogue between biological, vernacular, and cultural elements forms a central axis in their works, offering profound reflections on the interactions between the natural and the human.
“A Dança do Cipreste,” created in 2020, exemplifies the duo's artistic sensitivity and interdisciplinary approach. The work explores the fluidity between time and space, using elements of nature and cultural landscapes as protagonists in a poetic visual narrative.
The event, which was part of the cultural calendar of the campus, stood out for its intimate atmosphere and the opportunity for a discussion with the artists, who shared insights about their creative process and the inspirations behind their projects. This edition of the Great Arts on Campus reaffirmed the institution's commitment to fostering connections between the academic community and prominent figures in contemporary arts.
