AI and Games: How AI is Revolutionising the Games Industry
Event organised by Lusófona University explores the latest market trends and innovations
06.06.24 - 11h21Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming several scenarios, and the gaming industry is no exception. To discuss the vanguard of this revolution, Universidade Lusófona held the event "AI and Games: How AI is Changing the Gaming Industry". The event marked the launch of the new Master in Artificial Intelligence for Games, organized by the master's degree, in collaboration with EMJM Replay Program and o FilmEU.
With the aim of bringing together industry professionals, academics, students and games enthusiasts to explore the latest trends and innovations in AI in the context of digital games, the conference held at Cinema Fernando Lopes on the campus of Universidade Lusófona - Centro Universitário Lisboa on 6 May provided a comprehensive overview of how this controversial tool is shaping the future of games.
Participants were able to delve into topics such as Procedural Content Generation, Non-Playable Character (NPC) Behaviours, Large-Scale Language Models (LLM) for Interactive Narratives, Player Profiling, Automated Quality Assurance (QA) Testing and Mixed Initiative Tools. Each of these represents a crucial area in which AI is and continues to make significant advances, offering new possibilities and challenges for professionals in the field of game design and development.
Participants were thus able to gain and deepen insights into the current state of technological advances in this same context, using a quick analysis of cutting-edge technologies and their applications in games. The event also included a presentation of work by the students themselves, highlighting innovative projects and research conducted by the next generation of game designers.
One of the highlights was a round table focussed on the intersection between academia and industry. This session provided a platform for experts to discuss the evolving educational landscape in response to technological advances and how local industry and academic programmes can adapt to meet the growing demand for AI expertise in game design. This discussion was vital in shaping the future direction of both educational curricula and industry practices.
“AI and Games: How AI is Changing the Games Industry” provided an opportunity for insightful discussions, networking opportunities and the chance to see exciting developments in AI and games up close. Upholding the University's premise, events like this are therefore essential to progress in the field of video games, joining forces and academic-professional expertise.
