Carlos Matias Ramos, a professor at Lusófona University and former President of the Portuguese Engineers' Association, was honoured with the prestigious Gold Medal of the Engineers' Association during the National Awards Gala, held at Casino Estoril on 12 September 2024.
This distinction recognises the exceptional merit of individuals who, through their work, significantly contribute to the advancement of engineering and to the prestige of the Association. Carlos Matias Ramos, who led the Engineers' Association between 2010 and 2016, has been a professor of engineering at Lusófona University since 2016, where he has shaped and inspired generations of future engineers.
Professor Engineer Carlos Matias Ramos is one of the most renowned Engineers in the country, distinguished by the following:
- Researcher – Coordinator at LNEC – National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (1989)
- President of LNEC (2005-2010)
- President of the Engineers' Association (2010-2016)
- Advisor to the CESE – European Economic and Social Committee (2015-2020)
- Engineer of the Year (Construir, 2008)
- Excellence Award (Construir, 2015)
- Personality of the Year Award 2016 (Real Estate Magazine)
- Manuel Rocha Award, in the Personality category (Portuguese Society of Geotechnics, 2022)
His dedication and impact on the training of new professionals have been highlighted as fundamental to the development of engineering in Portugal.
