Conference explores the Pharmaceutical Sector Nowadays
Event brings together the academic community to address the true role of the pharmacist
26.06.24 - 11h34Held on 23 May, the Pharmacom Conference brought together students and professionals to discuss the multiple areas in which pharmacists work in the labour market. The main aim of the event was to clarify the diverse role of professionals in this sector in different contexts, including community pharmacies, hospitals, the pharmaceutical industry, laboratories and research and development.
The first panel, moderated by Maria Lídia Palma and Maria Dulce Várzea, opened the discussions by talking about the crucial role that the area of forensic investigation entails, highlighting how these professionals contribute to analysing and interpreting scientific evidence in legal contexts. Isabel Fernandes then addressed the roles and responsibilities for clinical analyses, emphasising the importance of continuous training and the specific skills required for this area. Joana Nobre presented cancer research at CBIOS - Centre for Research in Biosciences and Health Technologies, in which she discussed scientific advances and the fundamental role of pharmacists in researching new treatments and therapies.
Following on from this, the speakers also explored the role of pharmacists in other, less conventional areas. The topic began with a discussion on promoting information to doctors, emphasising how they make a difference as medical information delegates and influence evidence-based clinical practices. Forensic and regulatory pharmaceutical inspection was the focus of the next presentation, which highlighted the challenges and responsibilities in ensuring compliance with legal and safety standards. Finally, the role of pharmacists in the field of dermo-cosmetics was addressed, demonstrating how their skills are applied in the formulation and evaluation of skin care products.
The Pharmacom Conference thus proved to be an effective platform for broadening understanding of the various roles of pharmacists in the professional market and highlighting the importance of these professionals in a variety of areas, reflecting the evolution and complexity of the sector.
