
Conference marks Launch of New Master's Degree
Meeting of experts to discuss the future of labour relations and social security
19.07.24 - 11h25Held on May 29 at the José Araújo Auditorium, the ‘Dialogues between Labour Law and Social Security Law’ conference provided a space for dialogue and reflection on key issues for the future of work, strengthening integration between academia, professionals in the sector and society.
The event was highlighted by the launch of the Master's Degree in Labour and Social Security Law, the result of a partnership between Universidade Lusófona and Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes, as well as the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the magazine ‘Segurança’.
The programme was packed with debates and presentations. The theme ‘Digital work, technology and globalisation: migrant workers and digital nomads’ was addressed by Glória Rebelo (Lusófona University), Luís Nascimento (National and International Consultant in Occupational Health and Safety) and Luís Pica (Lusófona University), moderated by Marlene Mendes (Lusófona University).
This was followed by discussions on the sustainability of labour relations, business competitiveness and challenges in inspection and justice, with the participation of José Magalhães (Autonomous University of Lisbon), Cristina Gonçalves Rodrigues (Sub-Inspector General of the Working Conditions Authority), Viriato Reis (Deputy Attorney General at the Supreme Court of Justice) and Manuel Caldeira Cabral (Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority), moderated by Domingos Pereira de Sousa (Lusófona University).
Later, Carolina de Freitas e Silva, Director of the Master's Degree, presented the new study programme, followed by Isabel Santos, Director of ‘Segurança’ magazine, who celebrated the publication's 60th anniversary.
The focus turned to labour law and social security in the Portuguese and Brazilian legal context, with interventions by António Garcia Pereira (a lawyer specialising in labour law), Eduardo Pugliesi (Judge called to the Superior Labour Court - Brazil) and Alberto de Sá e Mello (Lusófona University), moderated by António Monteiro Fernandes (Lusófona University).
The event concluded with a panel on the problems and perspectives of the sick and injured in the context of legal-labour relations, risk prevention and social security, with Leonor Mascarenhas (Centre for Judicial Studies), António Sousa Uva (National School of Public Health) and Commander José Lucena (Navy officer in reserve), moderated by Isabel Santos (Safety Magazine).
