Between 23 and 25 July 2026, Lusófona University hosted the 9th International Congress of Pró-Inclusão – National Association of Special Education Teachers. Held under the theme “Inclusive Education: Questions and Answers”, the event took place in person at the Agostinho da Silva Auditorium, at the Lisbon University Centre.

Organised in association with Lusófona University, the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and Development — CeiED — and the Faculty of Social Sciences, Education and Administration — FCSEA —, the congress provided an opportunity for in-depth reflection on the challenges currently facing the development of schools that are more inclusive, equitable and capable of responding to the diversity of their pupils.

Over the course of three days, teachers, researchers, school leaders, specialists, families and representatives of various organisations were invited to discuss issues that form part of the everyday life of educational communities: is it possible to achieve inclusive education under current conditions? How can quality, rigour and equity be reconciled? How can schools respond to diversity when faced with a lack of resources, time, support and stability?

Drawing on the difficulties experienced by professionals and families, the congress sought to address doubts and concerns while maintaining a clear focus on inclusive education as an ethical and pedagogical commitment grounded in the fundamental rights of every child. The initiative aimed to contribute to the development of school practices, conditions and cultures that value every pupil, remove barriers, and promote learning, participation and a sense of belonging.
