The Faculty of Law of Lusófona University – Lisbon University Centre officially opened the new academic year on 22 September with a conference dedicated to the major challenges faced in the field of law. The session featured contributions that bridged different legal perspectives — from academic theory to forensic practice — encouraging critical reflection among students and lecturers.
The programme began with an address by Professor José de Faria Costa, Director of the Faculty of Law, who highlighted the role of legal education in understanding the social and political transformations of our time. This was followed by contributions from key figures in Portuguese justice, including Lídia Serôdio Pereira, Public Prosecutor; Tiago Filipe Brandão de Pinho, Judge at the Southern Central Administrative Court of Appeal; and Maria dos Prazeres Beleza, Justice of the Supreme Court.
More than an academic event, the conference also marked the welcome of new students to the Faculty of Law, symbolising the beginning of a journey guided by scientific rigour, the cultivation of critical thinking, and dialogue across disciplines.
