Students Explore Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Societies
The Erasmus Mundus Master's AISS addresses challenges and sustainable solutions in interior design, focusing on the impact of AI and data management
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
Last week, the Erasmus Mundus Master's AISS - Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Societies concluded a curricular unit dedicated to the role of the sustainable manager in addressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The practical activity challenged students to explore solutions for data collection and presentation for Standard, a historic furniture company in Estonia, now focused on interior design.
During the final presentations, students highlighted important conclusions:
- The use of AI should be avoided due to its high energy consumption and limited effectiveness for the proposed objectives;
- The interior design industry faces significant challenges in managing large volumes of data, requiring alternative approaches;
- Small steps and immediate solutions are recommended, with additional progress planned for the near future;
- The curricular unit was conducted by Kelli Turmann, professor of practical entrepreneurship, and Merja Bauters, SiTES - AISS programme manager and professor of digital transformation.
This programme, developed in partnership with several institutions, including Tallinn University, Tampere University, Lusófona University - Porto University Centre, Citizen OS Foundation, Biotoopia | Estonian Anthropocene Center, Inspirators! and Lääne-Harju vald, highlights the importance of international collaboration in developing sustainable solutions.
