Lusófona University has strengthened its commitment to ethics and responsibility in the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in academia. Recognising the growing impact of these technologies on the production and dissemination of knowledge, the institution has been working on defining guidelines that ensure transparency, scientific rigour, and pedagogical integrity.
With artificial intelligence (AI), we enter an era of new possibilities—an era entirely different from previous times when humans invented artefacts, machines, and devices. This era presents disruptive challenges but also brings numerous new opportunities.
Humanity has always sought to ensure that its inventions help build the world we imagine, and this is precisely what we expect from these new technologies.
However, like all inventions, they impact us and change our behaviour, potentially threatening the ethical and moral foundations upon which our civilisation was built. For this reason, Universidade Lusófona has created and is today presenting a guiding framework, designed to adapt to the future of AI while serving the interests of the academic community—lecturers, researchers, students, and staff. This is just the first step in a process that has only just begun, and we hope to count on everyone's participation and contributions.
Lusófona University thus reaffirms the importance of the responsible use of Generative Artificial Intelligence, ensuring that technological innovation is accompanied by a commitment to ethics, transparency, and academic excellence.
