Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
The Faculty of Law at Lusófona University is organising a series of summer courses during June and July 2026, dedicated to current and internationally relevant topics in the fields of Law, Human Rights and Criminology.
The initiative aims to provide an intensive, interdisciplinary and international academic experience, bringing together students, researchers and professionals interested in deepening their knowledge in emerging and strategic areas of legal science.
The 2026 edition includes five specialised courses:
Structural Health Monitoring – France
| Starting on 23 June 2026This 12-hour hybrid course addresses Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) within the context of statistical pattern recognition, supporting damage identification and risk management.
It includes an introductory remote component and a practical in-person section applied to bridges. Topics covered include unsupervised, supervised and transfer learning methods, as well as the role of SHM in adapting bridges to climate change.
Who is this course for?
The course is intended for postgraduate students and/or engineers working full-time in public and private institutions, such as authorities and contractors.
Child Friendly Justice
| Starting on 6 July 2026This course will address children’s human rights, the main legal instruments and the Council of Europe recommendations for faster and more child-adapted justice systems.

Legal professionals and Law students.
Environmental Law and Human Rights
| Starting on 13 July 2026This course deepens knowledge in Human Rights, Environmental Law and Climate Change, including binding legal instruments, the rule of law and new perspectives in the field, as well as recent decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
Criminology
| Starting on 20 July 2026This course provides a deeper understanding of the new challenges of criminal behaviour through a multidisciplinary approach, focusing on the motivations behind emerging forms of crime, including the role of cognitive distortions and trauma.

Law of the Sea and Human Rights
| Starting on 20 July 2026The course promotes an interdisciplinary understanding of ocean-related issues through legal, economic, environmental and public policy perspectives. During this summer school, participants will learn about the legal framework governing the oceans, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the BBNJ Agreement and other relevant agreements and treaties, with a particular focus on human rights.
Who is this course for?
This course is intended for legal professionals, Law students, Political Science students and other individuals with relevant backgrounds in ocean affairs.
The programmes encourage engagement with different international perspectives and foster critical reflection on contemporary legal challenges, from the protection of children’s rights and environmental justice to issues related to security, structural monitoring, criminology and human rights in the maritime context.
Through this training offer, Lusófona University reinforces its commitment to internationalisation, pedagogical innovation and the creation of learning opportunities aligned with global challenges and the transformations of contemporary society.
