ULusófona in major prominence at the Sophia 2026 Awards

In this edition, which introduced several new features, productions and lecturers from ULusófona received recognition in the awarded categories.

Under the theme “Designing the present, imagining the future”, the Portuguese Film Academy held the 15th Sophia Awards on 15 May. The ceremony took place at the Centro Cultural de Belém and distinguished productions and members of the academic community.

In this edition, which introduced several new features, productions and lecturers from Lusófona University - Lisbon University Centre received recognition in the awarded categories.

The film Banzo, directed and written by the lecturer Margarida Cardoso, received several distinctions:

  • Best Supporting Actress;
  • Best Production Design;
  • Best Special Effects;
  • Best Original Score;
  • Best Sound;
  • Best Editing;
  • Best Film;
  • Best Cinematography;
  • Best Direction;
  • Best Screenplay.

In addition to these distinctions, the Cinematography Award stands out, granted to film alumnus Leandro Ferrão, as well as the Best Direction and Best Screenplay awards, received by the director and lecturer at DCAM, Margarida Cardoso.

Gonçalo Galvão Teles, film lecturer and director of the European Master's in Film Kino Eyes, also received the Best Series award through his production company Fado Filmes.

The Department of Cinema and Media Arts congratulates all the winners of this edition of the Sophia Awards.
