The Colloquium on Commercial Law in the Digital Era took place on 22 April at Lusófona University - Porto University Centre, bringing together academics, researchers and professionals from the legal sector.
The initiative was organised by the CEAD, in partnership with the Faculty of Law and Political Science (FDCP) and Dower Law Firm. The event aimed to promote a space for critical and interdisciplinary reflection on the transformations of Commercial Law within a context of increasing economic digitalisation.
Throughout the day, topics such as digital contracts, data protection, online platforms, artificial intelligence applied to commerce and the regulatory impacts associated with technological developments were discussed.
Ana Guerra, Deputy Director of the Bachelor’s Degree in Law at Lusófona University - Porto University Centre, highlighted that commercial law “is no longer merely a traditionalist area of law and must face new challenges”, underlining the need to adapt legal frameworks to the online environment.
The meeting sought to bring together different perspectives from academics and professionals in the field, namely Professor Marcos Cruz Gonzalez, from the University of Salamanca (Spain); Professor Pedro Dias Venâncio, from the University of Minho; Professor César Pires, from the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança; Professor Fernanda Rebelo, from Universidade Portucalense; lawyer Carlos Filipe Costa, from Dower Law Firm; Professor Pedro Pablo Pérez Carbó, from Universidad de los Andes (Spain); Professor Elena Pérez Carrillo, from the University of León (Spain); and finally lecturer Ana Gonçalves, from Lusófona University. The diversity of contributions helped foster debate around changes in commercial law.
The initiative reaffirmed the importance of monitoring the evolution of commercial law in response to the dynamics of digital transformation and the need for continuous reflection and adaptation to new market realities.
